As I have stated the confusion of wildfowling quarry with non wildfowling quarry does occasionally happen but please remember the deliberate shooting of a non quarry species is illegal.
(Please click on the individual pictures to hear that birds call) NB :- These audio files are in the .wav format
The Shelduck is very common on the Humber but is easily distinguished by it's raucous call and abundance of white plumage. Confusion is only likely under extremely bad weather conditions or moonlight. The Shellie is a large bird almost as big as a goose.
The Barnacle
goose may be confused under extreme wildfowling conditions with
the Pinkfoot or Greylag but this is very unlikely although the
novice can get caught out.
The Brent goose
is very unlikely to be present on the Humber foreshore but it's
presence is not impossible, large numbers of this small goose do
over winter on the eastern side of Britain. Confusion is more
likely with wildfowling quarry ducks than other goose species due
to it's small size.
